New Tradidtional Jewellery

A special moment during the opening of Sieraad Art Fair on November 4th will be the announcement of the winners of the ‘one of a kind’ New Traditional Jewellery contest. No fewer than 302 entries have been sent in which will be judged by the jury (among whom Aziz, Dr Marjan Unger and curator Eveline Holsappel) at the end of July; the entries will be exhibited in a museumlike manner. After SIERAAD Art Fair the winning and nominated pieces will go on a tour of museums before being returned to the owners or buyers. The prizes of the contest will be distributed during the opening of SIERAAD Art Fair on November 4th.The winning and nominated pieces of New Traditional Jewellery will be on show every day of the fair.

The firm of Schöne Edelmetaal has once again promised to put up prizes in the form of gold and silver for the winners of the New Traditional Jewellery 2010 contest and we have also reached an agreement with the firm of Ruppenthal from Idar Oberstein for the donation of gems. The prizes of the contest will be distributed during the opening of SIERAAD Art Fair on November 4th. The winning and nominated pieces of New Traditional Jewellery will be on show every day of the fair. The organisation of SIERAAD Art Fair provides the winner in the category 'students' with a free stand at Sieraad Art Fair 2011.

Aziz Bekkaoui

About, Aziz Bekkaoui graduated from the Arnhem Art Academy. Immediately thereafter he won the Grand Prix for the best women’s collection during the Festival des Jeunes Stylistes in Hyères. Reason enough for Paco Rabanne to ask AZIZ to show his designs as an introduction to Rabanne’s fashion show in Paris. Apart from his own collection AZIZ also focuses on designing costumes for opera, dance and theatre. During the last few years in particular fashion designer/artist AZIZ creates performances and installations in museums and theatres in close cooperation with performance artists. On the occasion of the commemoration of the Treaty of Rome AZIZ presented a live performance installation and fashion show in the Ridderzaal for the Prime Minister his government, statesmen and Queen Beatrix. Solo exhibitions of AZIZ’ work in cooperation with various other artists could be seen in the van Gogh Museum, the Centraal Museum, Haags Gemeentemuseum, Historisch Museum, Musée de la Mode et du Textile, Paris, Stedelijk Museum, Cobra Museum and the Guggenheim in New York. In 2007 the city of Amsterdam awarded him the Kunstprijs. AZIZ is curator of the exhibition GOLD in the Catharijneconvent in Utrecht.
