Aziz Bekkaoui
About, Aziz Bekkaoui graduated from the Arnhem Art Academy. Immediately thereafter he won the Grand Prix for the best women’s collection during the Festival des Jeunes Stylistes in Hyères.
Reason enough for Paco Rabanne to ask AZIZ to show his designs as an introduction to Rabanne’s fashion show in Paris. Apart from his own collection AZIZ also focuses on designing costumes for opera, dance and theatre.
During the last few years in particular fashion designer/artist AZIZ creates performances and installations in museums and theatres in close cooperation with performance artists. On the occasion of the commemoration of the Treaty of Rome AZIZ presented a live performance installation and fashion show in the Ridderzaal for the Prime Minister his government, statesmen and Queen Beatrix.
Solo exhibitions of AZIZ’ work in cooperation with various other artists could be seen in the van Gogh Museum, the Centraal Museum, Haags Gemeentemuseum, Historisch Museum, Musée de la Mode et du Textile, Paris, Stedelijk Museum, Cobra Museum and the Guggenheim in New York.
In 2007 the city of Amsterdam awarded him the Kunstprijs.
